Definition

Reverberation means that sounds may be overly prolonged as they bounce back and forth as a result of reflection from solid surfaces (e.g. hard walls). This prevents listeners from adequately hearing the next sound. Because of the interference patterns, sounds will be louder in some places and softer in others.
